Scouts Mark Diamond Anniversary

Saturday 16 November 2019, 02:00pm - 06:00pm

The 13th Canberra Scout Group invites everyone connected with the group since its establishment in 1959 to an afternoon of celebration at its historic hall, Corner Boronia Drive and Hovea Street, O’Connor on Saturday, November 16.

From 2pm to 6pm, celebrations will include an afternoon tea, entertainment, opportunities to tour the historic hall, reminisce with former and current members of scouting, and participate in or observe scouting activities.

Since 1960, 13th Canberra Scout Group has been custodian of the nearly 100 year old heritage-listed timber hall, which was originally the dining hall for workers on Old Parliament House in the 1920s.

The hall was later moved to Kingston and operated by the United Friendly Society. When advertised for sale, the 13th Canberra Group's first parent committee bought the hall and moved it to O’Connor in 1960 where it has witnessed the growth and development of thousands of Canberra’s young citizens.

Since its creation, 13th Canberra Scout Group has provided an exciting youth education program to the young men and women of Canberra's inner North. The group currently has about 80 youth members and a team of dedicated adults committed to encouraging the development of young people through a fun program of leadership and teamwork, outdoor pursuits, environmental projects, arts and community involvement.

Some brief formalities to commemorate the 60th anniversary will begin at about 4pm.
