Investigations Continue Into Death Of Man Tasered By Police


The ACT'S Chief Police Officer is defending the police's use of stun guns,  following the death of a man who who was tasered by police.

When officers were called to the house in Waramanga they found the man covered in blood and holding a large knife.

They talked to him in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, but he stabbed himself in the leg.

ACT Police Chief Justine Saunders, says officers then used a taser to prevent the man from further harming himself.

The Australian Federal Police Professional Standards will investiage, as the death of the man in his 50s is being treated as a death in custody.

The cause of death will also be determine by the coroner.
