Barr Government Introduces New Bikie Laws

Legislation will be introduced into ACT Legislative Assembly to better target organised crime.

The ACT Government says it's committed to cracking down on criminal gangs in Canberra, despite rejecting the Opposition's push for anti-consorting laws yesterday.

New legislation introduced today will allow the police to apply to remove obstructions to criminal gang premises, such as fortified doors and gates.

However, the legislation includes safeguards to make sure police can only enter under very specific circumstances.

Police have welcomed the introduction of the legislation, saying fortifications can prevent police from carrying out warrants on certain properties.

The new reforms are also designed to strengthen laws around drive-by shootings.
