$20K fine for Evoenergy

ActewAGL's distribution business has been fined $20,000 after failing to notify Canberra customers on life support it was cutting the power. The Australian Energy Regulator has imposed the fine on Evoenergy relating to three type one breaches.
 
It's the second time Evoenergy has been issued with this kind of fine in the past year....

Plastic straws suck - new campaign

Canberra venues are being urged to ditch plastic straws.

This comes as part of a new Actsmart campaign which launched today.

Tracy Margrain from Bentspoke Brewery Company says they have signed onto the Actsmart business recycling program.

It's estimated around 10 million straws are used in Australia each day, with it taking up to 200 years to break...

$60,000 donated for Centenary Hospital

A cheque for $60,000 has been handed over from the Brick Expo to the Canberra Hospital Foundation.

The money will go towards purchasing medical devices and items for paediatric day stay unit and out patient clinics for Centenary Hospital.

Over the past seven years, the expo has raised over $350,000.

An inquest has heard how a Canberra psychiatrist was forced to take stress leave for two months due to staff shortages. He's told the hearing the ACT has a problem recruiting and retaining staff in mental health due to better working conditions in other states.
