Yesterday, the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) warned that Canberra would slip to 6 degrees overnight - but it didn't stop there.
Much to my amazement, when I arrived at the 2CA studios in Mitchell at 4.30 this morning the temperature gauge showed 2 degrees.
I thought it may be a mistake, but after I checked the official temperatures on the BOM website from around the A.C.T, it was certainly no mistake.
I mentioned in the first couple of hours on air that some sort of record would surely have been broken.
Just after 8am we got confirmation from the BOM that we had experienced our coldest January morning since records began.
Officially at Canberra Airport they recorded 1.6 degrees. The previous record of 1.8 was back in 1956.
We received calls from listeners all over the region, reporting unseasonably cold temperatures.
They got a frost in Bywong as the temperature dipped under 0 degrees. Goulburn recorded -0.1 and also broke a record in the process.
Mary from Belconnan seemed more concerned about her herbs and vegetable garden as she reported a light frost in her backyard.
They say the planet is warming, but it certainly wasn't in southern N.S.W this morning.
At least a nice day looks as if it will follow the cold frosty start. 22 today with light southerlies. Not summer, but far better than 1.6 degrees!

Cooking.
Most nights you can find me stirring, whisking, slicing or baking.
Wine.
I have a big cellar of vino. I have some great $20 bottles and even a few decent $3 bottles.
Driving.
Love packing the car up and hitting the road for a weekend away.
My family, my partner, my cat. I’d also have trouble saying “No” to red wine, cheese and chocolate.
More restaurants per capita than any other Australian city. Love all four distinct seasons, especially winter. It’s got everything except a beach, and even that’s not far away
